| Though the album begins
with a nifty rock-ballad titled “The Wind,” “The
Greatest of Ease” really kicks in with track two, “Bad
Pigs,” a hard funk with Jasmine’s inimitable lyrics
and falsetto underpinnings. Quintessential Jasmine tunes include
the “la-la” singalong “No Love” and
the easy-movin “I Don’t Do Shit.” The real
joy of listening to this record is the keyboard wizardry of
Kip Kolb. Avoiding blazing his chops all over the record,
Kip opts for a soulful approach. Put simply, the guy kicks
ass. Grooves galore – thanks to drummer Greg Isabelle
and bassist Scott Borland – and clever melodies round
out “The Greatest of Ease,” as in the dirty blues
of “In Days Dream” and the psychedelic blues of
“Colours.”
