| Since the first time I saw
Chad Jasmine play, which was at the Lydia Lunch show at Netherworld
in Gainesville, probably around 1990 or 91, I’ve always
appreciated his flamboyant musical style. Chad’s urban
west-coast street smart folk-music caught me off guard with
it’s unique originality. Chad even had a connection
to Jacksonville, Ed Wilson of the Milk Bar who is producing
Chad’s work. Through out his latest eight song tape
Chad’s vocals verge on G-Love-ish styles with his sauce
deriving from a blend of drum and bass, acid jazz and alterna-folk
(a term coined in Jax by Mark at the Mill). The tape features
Chad on guitars, saxophone, harmonica and vocals. Kip Kolb
on piano, organ and pennywhistle. Mike Rubin on live drums.
Chris Sweeny on Bass and DJ 360 provides the fat beats, cuts
and spins. The recording was done in 4 days as a collaborative
effort from literally the four corners of the United States.
Kip drove from Seattle, Ed ventured from Jacksonville and
DJ 360 via New York. Lastly, the group recorded in Long Beach,
CA, Recorded as a demo, the eight songs will be released on
CD cassette and 12” vinyl for DJ tracks. Soon after
the completion of the tracks Chad moved here to Jacksonville
to continue his work most recently including Greg Isabelle
(Scholars Word & Quarter Roylon drums) and Scott Borland
( Limp Bizkut) on bass to form “the CHAD JASMINE factor”
All are invited to hear “Angel trumpets & Devil
trombones”! Chad had been playing live in Jacksonville
at nearly every venue possible. Look for him at the Milk Bar,
Moto lounge or possibly the Mill.
